A birth plan is a document that contains everything you as the mother who is about to give birth want to happen for the birth of your baby.

The Birth Plan includes how you want to give birth, the pain methods you want to use, your emergency contact information, everything you want your midwife to know, and more.

How to Create a Birth Plan When You Have No Clue What To Expect as a First Time Mom

It’s finally time to create your birth plan, here are things you need to include and or think about for your birth plan:

Include Who You Want Present During Birth

Make sure you include who you want to be present with during the delivery of your newborn baby.

If you don’t want your child’s birth to be paid per view like my delivery was (with all my family members present), then ensure you state that in your birth plan.

Add Birth Location

Determine whether or not you want to give birth at the hospital, at home, birth center, or somewhere else.

Also, ensure you actually reach out to the location you want to give birth at and don’t forget to take a tour if you are going to give birth at a place other than your home. 

Include Your Doctor, Midwife, and or Doula’s Name And Information

Include who will be helping you deliver your baby.

Will you be using a doctor, midwife, or Doula?

Ensure to have their information on the Birth Plan, just in case you have to get in contact with them prior to and or after birth.

After your insight, into your birth plan, make sure to go over it with your medical provider and give them a copy of the birth plan.

Include How You Want To Deliver Baby

The whole point of the birth plan is to make sure your medical providers know how you want the birth of your baby to go.

So, including how you want to deliver the baby is vital.

Do you want to give birth to your baby in a tub? Use a Stooling Chair for birth?

Do you want to see the birth of your baby if you have a c-section?

Do you want to be able to move around before the birth of your baby? What about the birthing position (Laying on your back, sitting up, sitting down, etc.)?

Mention What You Want To Happen After Delivery

What takes place after the delivery of your baby is just as important as what happens beforehand.

After birth, you might want to consider the following:

• Will You Like Skin to Skin immediately after birth?
• Whether or not you want to Breastfeed the Baby As soon as possible?
• Would you like to be asked first before your baby is given a pacifier and or formula?
• If your baby is a boy, Would you like him to be circumcised?
• Would you like the baby to stay in the room with you during your whole stay at the hospital?
• Would you like to delay the bath for the baby?
• Do you plan on exclusively breastfeeding?
• Would you like all your medications and procedures to be explained first?
• Would you like everything pertaining to your baby to be done in front of you?
