How Do You Keep Your Sanity?

Canceled.  Everything.  Schools, playdates, visits to the park, eating out, even shopping trips are limited. It sounds like the perfect recipe to go insane. Don’t worry, you won’t! But life is different now. So what can you do to say sane while stuck inside…with your kids?

I’m here for you mama! I have the best survival guide to get you through the coronavirus as a stay at home mom!

Mom’s At Home Coronavirus Survival Guide

You can’t go out yet you’re all home. Perhaps you’re used to having kids at school all day. Or maybe you’re home with littles while the bigs are at school. Maybe you have to manage your kid’s virtual learning or maybe your kids are just out of school.

Whatever your situation this survival guide will help you make the most of this situation.

Remind Yourself That This Is Temporary

Like a lot. Life will not be like this forever even though there will be times it might feel that way.  When this happens, think of things to come after this season. Where I am leaves or flowers are not blooming quite yet. It’s too cold to go outside without a jacket. By the time this is over the landscape will be different! Green grass, beautiful flowers, warm sun, longer days! We have so much to look forward to when social isolation passes.

Think of plans you have later this year. Vacation? Family reunion? Remind yourself that you will have things to look forward too.

It doesn’t have to be big events either. Envision going to the park again, meeting another mom for a playdate or getting an ice cream treat. The things we can’t do now will feel so good to do again!

Set A Goal For Yourself

Use this time to accomplish something!  Something that is meaningful and rewarding for you.  You’ll probably have your hands full with extra bodies around, but carve out some time to work on something for yourself.

What kind of goal can you set? Declutter that closet that’s been nagging you. Finish the book you haven’t gotten to yet. Bake a batch of cookies each week. Get yourself moving for 15-30 minutes every day. Catch up on your spring cleaning!

You have a bit more downtime since you’re not out running errands, chauffeuring kids around or commuting. Take advantage of this extra time and do something you’ve been wanting to do!

Follow A Daily Routine

Now that your normal routine is canceled it’s time to take control and set your own routine. Kids do so much better with predictability too. Be up and ready to go at the same time. Have lunch at the same time each day. Designate a time for going outdoors, reading books, free play, screen time and school time if kids are virtual learning.

A routine gives you purpose to your day.

Connect With Others

We may be socially isolated but we don’t have to be fully isolated. Thank goodness for the internet! Take advantage of social media!

Connect with fellow moms on IG or Facebook. Start a text thread with your friends so you can encourage and commiserate with one another. Use your cellphone to make actual phone calls! I know a group of moms who are setting up a virtual workout together using Zoom! I know another group of moms who are posting daily art projects with their kids.

There are so many ways we can stay connected!

Make Time To Work At Home

It is tough getting your work done with kid’s home! You may have to let screen time restrictions go. Remember this won’t last forever extra screentime right now is okay.

If you need to work from home create a space that’s just for you where kids are not allowed to go while you work. Find the quiet times to work, like naps and movie time.

You might need to tag team with your spouse too. Whoever is gone during the day take over kid duties when they get home so the other can get to work.

Both home? Again take turns! Swap mornings and afternoons. Work with your boss to create a different schedule for the time being.

Keep the Kiddos Busy with Activities

The more busy your kids are with activities, the more time you’ll have to think clearly about the given situation.

Here are 35 Fun Things to do while stuck at home with the kids.

Try giving your lovely kiddos, art and craft projects to do. If you have a Cricut Maker, you can make lovely art projects like faux leather earrings, die-cut stickers, Custom T-shirts designs, Cards, Bows, and so much more!

If your kiddos will not be entertained by the Arts and crafts project, how about an indoor scavenger hunt with a rewarding price (of course!).

This is the perfect time to bond with your kids and really get to learn so much more about them.

Try to stay as active as possible. How about a dance workout battle with your kids? That sounds like a whole lot of fun to me.

If you have gamer kids, how about you let them teach you how to play their video games. I’m definitely a momma gamer! And my husband actually streams his gaming so of course our house is all about video games and having fun!
