Feeding

How you feed your baby is a personal choice. Fed is best.   No matter how your baby is nourished here are the things you need to keep their tummies full:

  • 10-16 bottles in 4 oz for newborns and 8 oz for older babies
  • Nipples–come in a variety of sizes and flow.  Start with a few of each kind to see which ones you and your baby like the best then stock up on your favorites
  • Bottlebrush
  • Breast pump
  • Nursing cover
  • Bibs
  • Nursing pillow
  • Burp cloths

Diapering

There are so many options for diapers. Again pick the method that works best for you.  If you choose cloth diapers make sure to research all of the options, there is a lot to pick from.   If you go with disposable it’s recommended to try a variety of brands because not all brands are the same. I know babies that could only wear Huggies while only Pampers or Target Up & Up worked for other babies. Here are the things you need to keep your baby’s bum happy:

  • Diapers–register for several brands
  • Gift cards to buy all the diapers once you see which brand works best for your baby
  • Wipes
  • Diaper ointment
  • Changing table with foam pad and several pad covers
  • Waterproof pads to lay under baby when changing
  • Diaper bag
  • Drawstring laundry bag for cloth diapers
  • Caddy or basket to store diaper-changing supplies that are in easy reach

Sleeping

Babies sleep a lot so it makes sense you need a safe place to let them slumber.  Babies don’t always fall asleep easily but luckily there are products out there that help them doze off.  Here are the things you need to get your baby to sleep:

  • Crib–not all babies sleep in the crib right away, but will take to it eventually
  • Bassinet or co-sleeper that keeps your baby nearby when you sleep
  • Bouncy seat and/or swing
  • Rocking chair
  • Swaddle blankets
  • Baby Monitor

Whether it’s holding your baby or traveling around town you need a way to get your baby from point A to point B.  There are great options out there. Here are the must-have baby products to get the little one out and about:

  • Infant car seat (Absolutely, recommend the convertible car seats), base, and best stroller combo–perfect for traveling by car and taking walks
  • Baby carrier–when you need to keep baby close but want your hands free to get things done
  • Car seat cover–for colder seasons this slips over the car seat like a little sleeping bag

Warmth and Comfort

Babies need to be kept comfortable, though they do a good job of letting you know if they are not!   Here’s what you need to keep them snuggly and happy:

  • Clothing that fits their size and season–If they will be newborn in the summer and 6 months old in the winter plan accordingly
  • Onesies with boat neck openings–easily stretch over the torso so you don’t have to pull over the baby’s head
  • Stretchy hats
  • A good collection of comfortable clothing to start with include a pack of onesies, a pack of knit pants, 6 sleepers, 4 sleepsacks, 6 socks, 2 hats, 2 lightweight hoodies
  • Swaddle blankets–especially for the first 3 months
  • Pacifiers–try a variety because babies do have a preference
  • Don’t forget a few cute outfits that match your taste
  • Hooded towels and washcloths
  • Baby bathtub
  • Mild baby bath soap and lotion

Having Fun

Babies are never too young to play and have fun. Surprisingly, the best way for babies to learn is through play.  Toys that stimulate the senses and spark curiosity are great for their development.  Toys are also a great way for you to bond with your baby. Be sure to include these fun toys in your baby registry:

  • Tummy time mat
  • Play gym
  • Crinkly tag toys
  • Sophie the Giraffe–best teether ever!
  • Toys that squeak, jingle, rattle or play music
  • Links to connect little plushies to play gym, stroller, car seat, or anything really
  • Board books
